Adventide!

From Father Iain, All Saints Chiang Mai

Join us as we decorate the church!

.

Dear Friends,

Advent is finally upon us once again!

Our service for Advent Sunday will be followed by a potluck and decorating the church.  This is a great fun time together!  Bring Christmassy food to share!

Advent is a time for preparing for Christmas, not just practically but spiritually too!  As we become busy with Christmas shopping, cooking, decorating, and planning, let us take time to remember the point of it all – to welcome the Prince of Peace into the world and into our lives!  Although Advent is a time of reflection, it is also a time of joy as we remember God coming among us, Emmanuel!  Let us give thanks this Advent!

Our readings for Advent Sunday will be from Isaiah 2:1-5, Romans 13:11-14, and Matthew 24:36-44, and we will be singing the hymns will include O Come O come Emmanuel and Come Thou Long Expected Jesus, as well as the Sussex Gloria and Christmas Creed.  Past services and sermons can be viewed via the All Saints audio-visual page!

Christmas Gifts for Children at Youth Charity Foundation

This year we will once again give the 50 children from the Youth Charity Foundation a Christmas present from All Saints.  If we spend 150 THB on each child, that will cost 7,500 THB and we would also like to give something to the adults who work at the homes.  If you would like to contribute to this project, please put money in the red box at the back of the church or give to Trustees Bill Moeller or Chris Tananone, or our treasurer, Don Williams. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

We plan to deliver the gifts on Saturday morning, December 28.  Let Bill or Chris know if you would be interested in joining this event (which will include lunch provided by the YCF). .
.
Christmas cards

Another way to support the children of the Youth Charity Foundation is to purchase their beautiful handmade Christmas cards.  They are 40 THB each.  Take as many as you want and put the money in the box next to the cards.

Christ the King!

From Father Iain, All Saints Chiang Mai

Christ is our King!

Dear Friends,

This week we will celebrate the Feast of Christ the King! We are not called to accept Jesus as our saviour – he is that already – but we are called to accept Jesus as Lord, the boss of our life!

Perhaps the use of the word “king” is foreign to us now, and ideas of constitutional monarchies further cloud the issue!  But the basic idea is simple – Jesus is the pattern for our lives, he is the one we should follow, when there are decisions to make then we should be committed to going God’s way and not our own.

This is not always easy.  Sometimes it is difficult to know what God is saying to us, but we are called to listen and follow as best we can and, even if we get it wrong, we know we are safe in God’s hands!

Our readings this Sunday will be Jeremiah 23:1-6, Colossians 1:11-20, and Luke 23:33-43, and we will be singing the hymns O Worship the King, King of Kings Majesty, Let us Break Bread Together, and Christ Be Our Light!  Past services and sermons can be viewed via the All Saints audio-visual page!

Come as you are!

From Father Iain, All Saints Chiang Mai

All are Welcome!

Dear Friends,

Last week we marked Remembrance Sunday remembering all those who are victims of war.  This week we will remember those who are victims of another sort of war – the fight against bigotry and the fight for the right to be yourself.

Every year hundreds of transwomen, and some transmen, are killed simply for being who they are.  Often those victims are also poor and people of colour and among the most marginalised in society.  Sometimes they die unknown, laid in an unmarked grave, but the Transgender Day of Remembrance works to make sure they are not forgotten.  As part of our service, we will welcome trans people, and others, from the MPlus organisation.

Our readings for The Transgender Day of Remembrance Sunday will be from Isaiah 56:1-5, Romans 8:31-39, and Matthew 22:30-40, and we will be singing the hymns Stand up stand up for Jesus, Lord we make this cry for freedom, Beauty for Brokenness, and Let Us Build a House!  Past services and sermons can be viewed via the All Saints audio-visual page!

Remember!

From Father Iain, All Saints Chiang Mai

This week’s service begins at 10:30 a.m.!!!!

Dear Friends,

Each year, around the world November 11th is marked as Remembrance Day.  People fall silent at 11 a.m. for two minutes to remember those killed in two world wars and in all the conflicts since.

Remembrance Sunday is observed on the Sunday closest to November 11th, and so this year we will mark the day on Sunday November 10th.  Our service will begin at the earlier time of 10:30 a.m. to allow us to observe the two minutes silence at 11 a.m.  We remember those who have died so that we might be free.

Our readings for Remembrance Sunday will be from Isaiah 2:3-4, Revelation 21:1-6a, and Matthew 5.1-12, and we will be singing the hymns O God our help in Ages Past, Abide with Me, Will Your Anchor Hold, and The Day Thou gavest Lord is Ended!  Past services and sermons can be viewed via the All Saints audio-visual page!
