Lent Begins Next Week !

From Ken Chase for All Saints Chiang Mai

Dear Friends,

Next week All Saints, Chiang Mai, will have its first ever Ash Wednesday service on 5th March at 7 p.m.  It has been advertised on Steve Yarnold’s email news, which goes to many hundreds of people in Chiang Mai, so hopefully we may see some new people join us.  The service will be held at our usual Sunday morning venue of 18 Pa Tan Road.  Last week we had a very enjoyable Wednesday Night Group where we discussed chapter 1 of Marcus Borg’s book, Speaking Christian. Tonight we will discuss chapters 2 and 3, looking at the meaning of salvation.  If anyone else would like to join us, we still have one copy of the book left.

This week we will be celebrating the Feast of the Transfiguration and the readings are Exodus 24:12-18, 2 Peter 1:16-21, and Matthew 17:1-9.  We will be singing the hymns Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God AlmightyBe Thou My VisionLord, I want to be a Christian, and Oh for a thousand Tongues to Sing.  After the service we will share coffee and biscuits at the house. Directions can be found on the Where and When page of the All Saints website.  Audio or video recordings of all February’s sermons are now available on the website’s Audio-Visual page, and there is also a new Donate page where single or monthly offerings can be made, in US dollars or British pounds, to support the on-going work here in Chiang Mai.

Most people get to hear about us via the internet or by word of mouth, so please feel free to pass on this email to others.  All are welcome to join us as we share the presence of the risen Jesus in our lives!  We hope to see you soon and that you will enjoy worshiping with us,

God bless,

Ken

Dear Friends,

Happy Valentine’s Day for tomorrow!  We can take this opportunity to remind ourselves that we have a God of love, who loves us and all mankind, enough to die for us!  Last week’s potluck was a great success! Thanks to Tarntip and all the others who brought food to share!

This week’s readings are Deuteronomy 30:15-20, 1 Corinthians 3:1-9, and Matthew 5:21-22, 27-37, and we will be singing the hymns Awake, My Soul, and with the SunDear Lord and Father of MankindBreak Thou the Bread of Life, and Christ Whose Glory Fills The Skies.  Directions can be found on the Where and When page of the All Saints website.  After the service we will share coffee and biscuits at the house.

The Wednesday Night Group continues next week at Joel’s place, when we will begin our discussions based around Marcus Borg’s book Speaking Christian.  If you are planning to attend, please read chapters one and two before next Wednesday.  (They are very short!)  If you don’t already have a copy you can pick up one on Sunday.

New Wednesday Group!

From Ken Chase for All Saints Chiang Mai

Dear Friends,

Our Wednesday Night Group will start tomorrow, Wednesday, 5th February.  We will be meeting at the home of Joel Akins near Suthep Road.  Suthep Road is behind Chiang Mai University, and you should ask a tuk tuk or Songtaew driver for “lahng mo soi 7”.  There’s a sign on the corner for Punna 3, and it is on the left as you walk down soi 7. It is easy to find. Just go to the end of Nimmenhaimen Road, turn left on Suthep Road, cross the Canal Road, and Soi 7 is about 500m further up the hill.

The meeting will begin at 7pm, but we will meet on the corner at 6pm, and go to a local eating place first.  The group should last about an hour and we will discuss possible activities at our first meeting.  We may study a book together, share, pray, read the bible, or a mixture of these.  It should be a great way of better getting to know and support one another.

This Sunday, 9th February, we will have a pot-luck meal following the service.  Please think about what you could bring to share!  This week’s scripture readings will be Isaiah 58:1-8,  1.Corinthians 2:1-10, and Matthew 5:13-20, and we will be singing the hymns Praise my Soul the King of HeavenCalled as Partners in Christ’s ServiceLet us Break Bread Together, and Christ is made the Sure Foundation.

Directions can be found on the Where and When page of the All Saints website.

God bless,

Ken
