From Father Iain, All Saints Chiang Mai

No guests at the wedding!
Dear Friends,
In April 2020 Emily and Parris Khachi were married in an empty San Francisco church – none of the guests they wanted to invite turned up so they printed out their pictures instead! This was due to Covid, but in this week’s Gospel reading we see a similar wedding no-show although for different reasons: the rich invitees were too busy so the host invited the poor instead who filled the place!
Jesus told this parable to explain the Kingdom of God – those who had the first invited are often uninterested while those really in need grasp the message of the kingdom with open arms! What about you? Elsa will be preaching this Sunday – come and find out more!
The readings for this Sunday will be from Exodus 20, Philippians 3:4-14, and Matthew 22:1-14, and we will be singing the hymns The God of Abraham Praise; The Summons; Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart; and Thine Be the Glory!
We now use YouTube Live to livestream our service.

All Saints Singers (choir) 2nd rehearsal this Sunday
This is a shout-out for ‘volunteers’ within the All Saints congregation to come along and have a singing Practice (for want of a better phrase) this Sunday for half an hour before the service (9.30-10.00am) to learn or become confident in singing the hymns for the morning Service. In the absence of a piano or organ, Mark and I (amongst others) have been discussing the prospect of a small core of singers who can confidently lead the congregation in praising God through Music and, if it takes off, we might even call ourselves a choir and maybe rehearse some more advanced stuff (Tallis, Mozart, Stanford, Haydn, etc. the list is almost endless)
Meet in All Saints at 9:30-10:00 am Sunday 11th October (there will be some ‘fun’ surprises too!?)
Next Tuesday – Chili Night is moving!

Chili night is not moving location but is moving day. Instead of meeting every Tuesday night, we’re going to meet alternate Wednesday nights, alternating with the potluck at the MCC office.
Next week we will have chili night at the Vicarage on Wednesday, beginning at 6 pm. All are welcome to join us for chili and rice, followed by ice cream.
All Saints’ Day
On Sunday, the 1st of November, we will celebrate All Saints’ Day. This will be followed by a potluck at the vicarage.
Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday
On Sunday 8th and Wednesday 11th November we will remember victims of war and together declare “never again!”
Sunday 8th November is Remembrance Sunday. We will gather at All Saints at 10:30 a.m. to remember victims of war and armed conflict around the world. The service will include two minutes silence at 11 a.m. and hymns will include The Day Thou Gavest Lord is Ended, and Abide with Me.
On Wednesday 11th, I will lead the Remembrance Day Observance at the Foreign Cemetery. Please assemble at 10:30 a.m. Directions to the Foreign Cemetery can be found here!
Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil and Service

A vigil will take place on the evening of Friday 20th November. More details to follow!
Then on Sunday 22nd November, we will mark the Transgender Day of Remembrance in our morning worship at All Saints!
Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday to me! On Friday November 27, 2026, I will be 60 years old!
Everyone is invited to a party at my house to celebrate. It will be a costume party. Save the date.
Details to follow.
