No Male nor Female!

From Father Iain, All Saints Chiang Mai

All one in Christ Jesus!

Dear Friends,

Last Sunday we celebrated our Harvest Festival with the children of the Youth Charity Foundation.  This week we will be back in church and looking at our unity in Christ and how we are no longer divided by race, gender, colour, or ability!

God has made us all different but has united us in Christ.  Distinctions fall when we are made one in God’s salvation.  We don’t cease to be who we are, but our creation is fulfilled in God’s wholeness allowing diversity to flourish in harmony!

How much we have to say thank you for to our heavenly creator who made us God’s children.

The following week, Sunday 10th October, many of us will be in Chiang Dao.  If you can’t be there, then you will be able to join us on Zoom!

Our scripture readings this week will be from Genesis 2:18-24, Hebrews 1:1-4, 2:5-12, and Mark 10:2-16, and we will be singing the hymns Let All the World in Every Corner Sing, In Christ there is no East or West, Let us Break Bread Together, and Stand up stand up for Jesus!

We were unable to Zoom last week from YCF, but Zoom will again be available this week.

Use this link to join this Sunday on Zoom at 10:30 a.m.

Ten very diverse people attended last Tuesday and we had a great time of food, conversation, and fellowship.

Must we choose?

Dear Friends,

What does it mean to be humble?  Scripture says that God exalts the humble and casts down the proud.  But what is true humility and how can we achieve it? Humility is not the same as feeling worthless and does not mean letting others walk all over us or others.  So what does it mean?  Find out a little, at All Saints this Sunday!

Our scripture readings for the Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity will be from Wisdom 1:16-2:1, 12-22, James 3:13-4:8, and Mark 9:30-37, and we will be singing the hymns All for Jesus, All to Jesus I surrender, Brother Sister Let me Serve You, and How Great Thou Art!

Those who don’t wish to gather in person can join us on Zoom.

For she is a reflection of eternal light

Dear Friends,

Our scripture readings for this Sunday focus on Wisdom – how she acts and who she is!  But who is Wisdom?  Just a personification of one of God’s attributes, an angel, a metaphor, or one person of the Trinity? The Greek Orthodox Church was so devoted to Holy Wisdom that their holiest cathedral was dedicated in her honour, Hagia Sophia in Constantinople.

The Church of Hagia Sophia

So who is Wisdom?  Is she the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ, or the Holy Spirit who guides us into all wisdom, or something else?  Find out more this Sunday!

Our scripture readings for the Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity will be from Proverbs 1:20-33, James 3:1-12, and Mark 8:27-38, and we will be singing the hymns Immortal Invisible God only Wise, Come and Seek the Way of Wisdom, Holy Spirit We Welcome You, and Holy Wisdom Lamp of Learning!

Last Sunday’s Potluck

Potluck at the New Vicarage

Thanks to everyone who made last week’s potluck such a great success.  It was a little wet so we were unable to meet out on the lawn under the trees, but we ate outdoors on the back terrace instead.  A good time of fellowship!

GREEN’S!

Clarice’s son, John, has opened a shop selling UK products.  It is across the road from Kad Farang in Hang Dong and you can also order deliveries!  Their website will be coming soon too! Click here for the Google location!

The Independent Sacramental Movement

Archbishop Ron, who will be visiting us for All Saints Day, is from the Ecumenical Catholic Church of Australia.  This is part of the independent sacramental movement.  If you are interested, you can find out more about this little known branch of Christianity by listening to the Sacramental Whine podcast from Bishop Oliver Kling.  I have found it a very useful resource.

POTLUCK LUNCH THIS SUNDAY!

Dear Friends,

This week our service will again begin at the new time of 10:30 a.m.  Those who don’t wish to gather in person can join us on Zoom.

Use this link to join this Sunday on Zoom at 10:30 a.m.
Meeting ID: 548 801 501

Our service will be followed by a potluck lunch at the New Vicarage.  (Details and directions below!)

Our God is an Awesome God!  That is the title of a song which came to mind when I began preparing for this week’s service.  In our Gospel reading we see Jesus healing and reaching out to all, while in our New Testament reading we are warned against favouritism.  God does indeed open heesh arms to all!

Our scripture readings for the Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity will be from Proverbs 22, James 2:1-17, and Mark 7:24-37, and we will be singing the hymns O Worship the King, To God be the Glory, When the Music Fades, Our God is an Awesome God, and Oh for a thousand Tongues to Sing!

Last week’s full worship service can be viewed here or you can watch just the sermon here!

God’s welcome for all!

The address is:

The New Vicarage,

Kan Klong Chonprathan Road,
