Who’s the Boss?

From Father Iain, All Saints Chiang Mai

Jesus heals a blind man!

IN CHURCH AGAIN AT 10 AM
FOLLOWED BY POTLUCK

Dear Friends,

“I don’t believe it!”  Jesus arrived back in Nazareth in this week’s Gospel reading, and the people couldn’t believe or accept his teaching!  The text says Jesus was amazed at their unbelief. In the same way, the Pharisees and Sadducees also failed to accept his authority.  But what is spiritual authority?  Do we have it at All Saints and how can it connect to spiritual abuse?  Find out more this Sunday at All Saints.

Use this link to join this Sunday on Zoom at 10 a.m.
Meeting ID: 548 801 501

Our scripture readings for the Fifth Sunday after Trinity will be from 2 Samuel 5:1-5, 9-10, 2 Corinthians 12:2-10, and Mark 6:1-13, and we will be singing the hymns Praise with joy the world’s Creator, I the Lord of Sea and Sky, Will you come and Follow Me, and Go forth and tell!

Mark’s dramatic sermon from last Sunday can be found here!

Dedication at the Youth Charity Foundation

There will be a special event this Saturday night, 3rd July, at House of Grace to dedicate their new building.  The event begins with a worship service at 5 p.m. which will be followed by dinner.

Click here for directions to the House of Grace!

If you would like to drive in convoy (or share a car) come to my new house at 4 p.m. (Directions to my new house in item below!)

Gifts for YCF in memory of Bill

THB 32,000 was collected last Thursday in memory of Bill Moeller.  Thanks to all who worked so hard to give Bill a fitting send off!  He will be sorely missed!  Bill’s partner, Mee, wishes to share his thanks for these kind gifts and for all the love he has been shown by so many from All Saints.  He will present the money to YCF at their special event at The House of Grace this Saturday.

Bill’s sister, Marilyn, also sent the following message:

I watched the You Tube of Bill’s funeral.  Thank you for your wishes. It made me feel like l was there with you. Please tell everyone at All Saints how much we appreciate all the wonderful tributes to Bill, his absence leaves a big hole in my heart.

I thought that Mee and all the Ministry Team did a splendid job to make the whole time a wonderful tribute to Bill and just as he had hoped that it would be.

Bill was a wonderful man, may he rest in peace and rise in glory!

You can watch the Celebration of Bill’s Live here!

Bill Moeller, sharing a meal with All Saints in January

IN CHURCH AGAIN AT 10 AM

Dear Friends,

This Thursday we met at the HaiYa Crematorium to mark the passing of our dear friend, Bill Moeller.  The service began at 10 a.m. and details can be found below.  It is strange that our Gospel reading for this Sunday is all about healing for, in one sense, Bill was not healed, but he had shared with many of us that he felt it was his time to go and he expressed the wish that he hoped it would be quick – which it was.

The ultimate Christian hope of healing is the knowledge that we will all be made whole as we are united with God in the heavenly kingdom.  But we will still miss Bill greatly! Rev. Mark Crawford will be preaching this Sunday on the story of the raising of Jairus’ daughter – a reminder of our hope of resurrection.

Our scripture readings for the Fourth Sunday after Trinity will be from 2 Samuel 1:1, 17-27, 2 Corinthians 8:7-15, and Mark 5:21-43, and we will be singing the hymns  When Morning Gilds the Skies, O Christ the Healer, When I needed a Neighbour, and Christ is made the Sure Foundation.

Bill Moeller’s Funeral

Bill’s funeral was at 10 a.m. this Thursday at the HaiYa Crematorium.

It was also livestreamed on Zoom and the video of the service is now available here!

The service lasted about an hour and there was opportunity for people to share their memories of Bill.  The children of the Youth Charity Foundation, of which Bill was so supportive, also sang.

All gifts in memory of Bill will be given to the Youth Charity Foundation.  If you wish to give by bank transfer via All Saints, please inform the All Saints’ treasurer, Arthur Mann, on arthurmann@mcc.org so that he can make sure the money is correctly allocated. Everyone was invited to a meal at the River Market following the cremation.  Bill was a wonderful man and will be sorely missed.

Our wonderful choristers will again be singing in church on 4th July and we will be have a special potluck following the service!  See Phyllis about what to bring!

Helga Spring with be preaching this Sunday.

IN CHURCH AGAIN AT 10 AM

Dear Friends,

All hail the power of Jesus name!  In this week’s Gospel reading we see Jesus calming the storm.  The disciples are amazed: “Even the wind and waves obey him!”  Do we underestimate the power of Jesus?  Find out more about what this can mean for our lives as Helga preaches this Sunday.

Those who don’t wish to attend in person, can also join us on Zoom and we will livestream our service this Sunday.

Broadcasting?

From Father Iain, All Saints Chiang Mai

Publish abroad his wonderful name!

IN CHURCH AGAIN AT 10 AM

Dear Friends,

The word broadcasting does not occur in the Bible, but the word publishing occurs 25 times in the King James Bible.  It is not talking about printing a book though, but rather about making news public!

Of course, broadcasting has more than one meaning also.  It can mean radio or TV, but can also mean declaring news publicly as we are urged to do in this week’s New Testament reading.  In addition, farmers can broadcast seed as they scatter it on the fields.  This reminds us of our Gospel reading this week, where Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to seeds growing secretly under the ground only to burst forth.

So how are we to broadcast the Good News of Jesus – shout from the rooftops or work carefully and quietly?  Find out at All Saints this Sunday.

Those who don’t wish to attend in person, can also join us on Zoom and we will livestream our service this Sunday.

Our scripture readings for the Second Sunday after Trinity will be Ezekiel 17:22-24, 2 Corinthians 5:6-17, and Mark 4:26-34, and we will be singing the hymns O Worship the King, In Christ alone my hope is Found, Give me Jesus, and Before the Throne of God Above!

It’s wonderful that we can again be together in person and share the good news that Christ is risen and that God’s love for us, and the world, never ends!

The Holy Spirit

IN CHURCH AGAIN AT 10 AM
Dear Friends,

The Holy Spirit is perhaps the hardest person of the Trinity to visualize – we can more easily picture God the Father, or Jesus, but the idea of spirit is much more intangible.  The Holy Spirit is often pictured as a dove, but does that really help us?

In this week’s Gospel reading, Jesus talks about “blaspheming the Holy Spirit” and says “”whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin.”  What does this mean?

Firstly, if you are afraid you may have accidentally blasphemed the Holy Spirit then don’t worry – you won’t have!  I think it means that you have deliberately said something is from God when you know it is not, or vice-versa.  You have deliberately misled someone.  Even then, repentance is still possible!

It is all about being honest and truthful, and it’s all about God’s forgiveness once again!  We will explore this more on Sunday!

Those who don’t wish to attend in person, can also join us on Zoom and we will livestream our service this Sunday.

Use this link to join this Sunday on Zoom at 10 a.m.
Meeting ID: 548 801 501

And you can watch last week’s excellent sermon by Christa Crawford here!

Our scripture readings for the First Sunday after Trinity will be 1 Samuel 8:4-20, 11:14-15, 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1, and Mark 3:20-35, and we will be singing the hymns Now Thank We All Our God, Spirit of God Descend Upon My Heart, You laid aside Your Majesty, and When we walk with the Lord!

It’s wonderful that we can again be together in person and share the good news that Christ is risen and that God’s love for us, and the world, never ends!

 Meeting Time

For seven years All Saints main service was at 11 a.m.  Last August, we began meeting with the doors open due to Covid. The service was then moved to 10 a.m. as it was cooler.   With first the pollution and then the heat, we have retreated back into the air-conditioning, and some people have requested that the service move back to 11 a.m.

What do you think?  Speak to me or a Church Council member!
