From Father Iain, All Saints Chiang Mai

Remembrance!
Dear Friends,
This week we mark Remembrance Sunday on Sunday 8th November and then, two days later, on Wednesday 11th November, I will lead the Remembrance Day Observance at the Foreign Cemetery. Please assemble at 10:30 a.m. Directions to the Foreign Cemetery can be found here!
Remembrance Day began as Armistice Day to mark the end of the First World War on the 11th November 1918 at 11 a.m. UK time. (Midday Central European Time.) Since then a minutes silence has been held each year on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. At the end of the Second World War this became two minutes silence to commemorate the dead of the two world-wide conflicts. It has now become a time to remember all those killed in all subsequent wars and armed conflicts around the world, and to redouble our efforts to work for peace!
From the very beginning the two phrases associated with Remembrance Day are “Lest we forget” and “Never Again!” In the light of the on-going conflicts in Ukraine, Myanmar, and the Holy Land, and the attacks on Iran which may be about to restart, these words have never been so apt. We pray for the end of hostilities and a just and lasting peace for all.
The bible readings for this Remembrance Sunday will be Isaiah 2:3-4, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, and Luke 21:5-19, and we will be singing the hymns O God our help in Ages Past, Abide with Me, Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus, and The Day Thou gavest Lord is Ended!

Presented as a Reader’s Theater, the piece strips away elaborate sets and theatrical distraction to let the words themselves take center stage. Far from diminishing the impact, this intimate format makes the testimonies all the more visceral and powerful. Through raw, unvarnished storytelling, our performers give voice to the human faces, heartbreak, and quiet resilience behind the asylum system—demanding that we listen closely and confront the realities that politics so often obscures.
Come witness these vital narratives brought to life.

New Chiang Mai Parkinson’s Support Group
Michael Bell, a friend of David Cartwright’s and mine, has started a Chiang Mai Parkinson’s support group. Please share with anyone you know who might be interested.
Dear Friends,
My name is Michael Bell, also known as Mai. I’ve been living with Parkinson’s Disease for about 25 years, and moved to Chiang Mai two years ago. I’ve met others here with PD and I found there was a common desire among them for a way to share with other people affected by PD. So I’d like to invite you to a new support group for people living with PD, their families, and caregivers. We hope to create a friendly, caring community where everyone feels welcome and no one has to face this journey alone.
Whether you’ve recently been diagnosed or have been living with Parkinson’s for some time, there’s a place for you here. We’ll meet to connect, share experiences and practical tips, and learn about helpful resources. You’re welcome to talk, ask questions, or simply listen—there’s no pressure to share, and you can participate in whatever way feels comfortable.
Our first meeting will be held on Thursday November 19th, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., at Rimping Condo, #805. (Rimping Condo is located on the Ping River, right across the river from the old American Consulate building.) We’d love to welcome you. If you have questions, or would like to let us know you’re coming, please contact Mai at 082-219-1523.
Your privacy matters: confidentiality is a shared commitment. We want everyone to feel comfortable and respected. Members agree to keep personal stories and information shared during meetings within the group. Please do not repeat or disclose what someone shares, or identify anyone who attends, without that person’s permission. Not everyone has shared their diagnosis publicly yet. You choose what to share, and you are always welcome to simply listen.
We hope you’ll join us and help this new community grow. If you know someone living with Parkinson’s in Chiang Mai, please pass this invitation along. Everyone is welcome. We look forward to meeting you!
Warmly,
Mai

Parking: Parking is available across the street from Rimping Condo, behind The Fringe Restaurant. Or next to the Rimping Condo building in the Samsen Restaurant parking lot. If you use a wheelchair, parking spaces are available in front of the building. Just ask the Security personnel in their office, (to the right just inside the drive-in ramp), who will remove the cones reserving these spaces.
