Light of the World!

From Father Iain, All Saints Chiang Mai

Dear Friends,

At Christmas we remember the coming of Jesus, and in the Season of Epiphany we recall the revelation of Jesus to the nations.

Epiphany ends with the Feast of Candlemas, when we read of the presentation of Jesus at the Temple as Simeon declares Jesus to be “a light for revelation to the Gentiles”.

Jesus, with his Gospel of peace and life, forgiveness and new birth, is the Light of the World!  That is what we will be celebrating this Sunday.

Our readings for the Feast of Candlemas will be Malachi 3:1-5, Hebrews 2:14-18, and Luke 2:22-40, and we will be singing the hymns Christ Whose Glory Fills The Skies, King of Kings Majesty, Let us Break Bread Together, and At the Name of Jesus!

Past services and sermons can be viewed via the All Saints audio-visual page!

Valentine’s Service – Next Sunday!

At All Saints, we try to mark significant events in the year’s calendar – not just the religious ones!

This year, Valentine’s Day falls on Thursday 14th February, on Sunday 10th we will focus our service on the theme of love.

Included in this special service will be the opportunity for all couples to renew their vows to each other, and we will remember that whether we are single or coupled, we are all enfolded in God’s love.

This could be a good opportunity to include partners who don’t normally attend church!

All Saints Foundation

We are beginning the process of registering All Saints as a foundation with the Thai government.  An initial official planning meeting will be held on Saturday 23rd February.  Please hold all involved in your prayers and let me know if you would like to be involved.

The process for UK Charity registration is also continuing.

Chiang Mai Pride 2019

For the first time in ten years, Chiang Mai will be holding a Pride march.  This will occur on 21st February, exactly ten years to the day since the last march.  The march will begin at 6 p.m. at the Chiang Mai Religion Practice Center and end at Thapae Gate.  All supportive people are invited to join.  All Saints will be marching behind a Christians at Pride banner.

Zaw Lin & Wai Phyo – Prison Addresses

David Cartwright writes:

My dear Iain,

First of all thank you so much for incorporating the issue of the two Burmese boys incarcerated in BKK prison within your sermon this morning. Very moving for me and deeply appreciated.

Also thank you for allowing me to read out Zaw Lin’s letter to Kim and me – I hope I didn’t stumble over it too much! At any rate several members of the congregation thanked me for sharing it.

I do hope the prayer of intercession helps and that the Supreme Court hearing actually happens soon this year resulting in their early release.

As promised I am sending you their addresses and I hope you can include these somewhere on the All Saints website / newsletter;

Zaw Lin 590082,

Building 2,

Bangkwang Central Prison,

117, Nonthaburi Road,

NONTHABURI 11000

Wai Phyo 590018,

Building 2,

Bangkwang Central Prison,

117, Nonthaburi Road,

NONTHABURI 11000

If you could kindly ask the readers to send either greeting cards or notepaper, drawing paper, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, erasers, or any combination thereof, that would be really great!

Many thanks, in anticipation.

With best wishes from David & Kim,
