From Father Iain, All Saints Chiang Mai

Land of the Free?
Dear Friends,
Judgement! In this week’s Gospel passage we see stern words from Jesus for those who fail to mend their ways! This command applies to all of us but especially to those who occupy a position of leadership – whether in the church or the world. We are called to repent, but we are also called to call our leadership to account!
How can we help? That is the question that many of us at All Saints are asking. Some of our people are up at the border with Myanmar helping refugees there, and we may soon be welcoming exiles from the US who feel that they are no longer safe in the country of their birth.
It seems that the current American administration is now choosing to ignore court orders and certain sections of the police are now choosing to enforce presidential orders rather than those of the law. All we can so is pray – and be prepared to help in whatever way we can. All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good people to remain silent – so speak we must!
God is ultimately the judge, and I believe that good will triumph in the end! Please keep praying!
The readings for this Sunday will be Isaiah 55.1–9, 1 Corinthians 10.1–13, and Luke 13.1–9, and we will be singing the hymns O God of Earth and Altar; Beauty for Brokenness; Called as Partners in Christ’s Service; and Onward, Christian People!
