ecclesia a nobis

From Rev Iain Baxter, All Saints Chiang Mai

Dear Friends,

Ecclesia a nobis – We have a church!  Of course, the church is the people, but it’s great that we now have our own building.

Yesterday, Elena and I went down to the new church building to get the keys.  We now have our building. She was greatly impressed by the space.  I have a list of paint, brushes, rollers, and cloths to buy, ready for our fixing-up day on Saturday.  We will meet there at 10 am.  Bring old clothes and a happy smile!  Lunch will be provided.

We already have tables, chairs and drawers there, purchased at a very good price.  Thanks to William and Tarntip for transport to the place selling them, and Matt and Noon for assisting in carrying them back to the church!

This Sunday is our last service at 18 Pa Tan Road. After almost one year of worship on the terrace we are moving on.  It has been a great place to praise God in the midst of nature.  We may even get to use the river this week!  Our first service in the new building will be the following week on Sunday 13th July.  The service will also be followed by a potluck.   Directions to the new place are on the website!

This Sunday our readings are taken from Genesis 24, Song of Solomon 2:8-13, and Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30, and we will be singing the hymns Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty, Alleluia Alleluia Give ThanksCome Down O Love Divine, and Love Divine all Loves Excelling.  You can find the readings via this link.  Video and audio of our major services can be found on the Audio-Visual page of the All Saints website and as always, directions can be found on the Where and When page.

Most people get to hear about us via the internet or by word of mouth, so please feel free to pass on this email to others.  All are welcome to join us as we share the presence of the risen Jesus in our lives!  We hope to see you soon and that you will enjoy worshiping with us,

.
God bless,

Iain

Two More Services!

From Rev Iain Baxter, All Saints Chiang Mai

Dear Friends,

We have only two more weeks of worship at 18 Pa Tan Road: this week, 29th June, and the following week, 6th July.  I hope you can join us.  As you know, All Saints is moving and we will have the first service in our the new building on 13th July.  The service will be followed by a potluck.   Directions to the new place are on the website!  We have just purchased a “home cinema sound system” for our new church home, so the music should be louder and clearer.

Everyone is invited to the new building on Saturday 5th July to clean, paint and make things ready for our first service.  We will be there from 10 am onward.  It seems we will then be sharing in a BBQ in the afternoon, to belatedly celebrate 4th July, at Mark’s home.  Apparently, something happened on that day!

Our readings this Sunday are taken from Genesis 22:1-14, Romans 6:12-23, and Matthew 10:40-42, and we will be singing the hymns The God of Abraham PraiseThere’s a Spirit in the AirWill you come and Follow Me?, and All My Hope on God Is Founded.  You can find the readings via this link.

Video and audio of our main services can be found on the Audio-Visual page of the All Saints website and as always, directions can be found on the Where and When page.  Most people get to hear about us via the internet or by word of mouth, so please feel free to pass on this email to others.

Sunday Worship & Update on Ken

From Rev Iain Baxter, All Saints Chiang Mai

Dear Friends,

Ken has now had the operation to pin his broken leg.  He had the scan he needed on Thursday and was operated on Friday.  All went well and Elena and I visited him yesterday.  Please continue to uphold him and his family in your prayers.

We have been reviewing our weekly events and, due to changes in our congregation, the Wednesday Night Group is no longer meeting the needs of many people. We are therefore thinking of having a different activity each week in addition to our Sunday service.  This could be a meal, a discussion, an outing, and so forth. The time and venue could change too.  Of course, in five weeks time we will have our new building!

Last week we had the first of our Gift Days to help to cover the set up costs for our new place.  THB 2,800 was gratefully received and envelopes will again be available this Sunday for people who have been away.

Anyway, I hope you can join us for worship on Sunday. This week’s readings are taken from Acts 1:6-14, 1 Peter 4:12-14; 5:6-11, and John 17:1-11, and we will be singing the hymns All People that on Earth do DwellBe Thou My VisionIn the Lord I shall be Thankful, and Alleluia, Sing to Jesus.  Video and audio of our services can be found on the Audio-Visual page of the All Saints website and as always, directions can be found on the Where and When page.

Most people get to hear about us via the internet or by word of mouth, so please feel free to pass on this email to others.  All are welcome to join us as we share the presence of the risen Jesus in our lives!  We hope to see you soon and that you will enjoy worshiping with us,

Hope to see you soon,

New Building!

From Ken Chase for All Saints Chiang Mai

Dear Friends,

Please join us at 18 Pa Tan Road as we continue to worship this Easter Season!

Our exciting news is that we now have a new building!!! We will be moving some time in July.  On Tuesday, Iain signed the lease for the building.  It should be a great new home for All Saints, and we hope to be there for a number of years!

.

As many of you know, the lease on the house where we currently worship expires at the end of July. It has been lovely to worship out on the terrace overlooking the Ping river, but the space is getting too small and it would be better to have a “proper church” dedicated for worship.  We are therefore moving to a new venue.

About a month ago, Ken and I looked at a property near Prince Royal College.  It is a large free-standing hall which would be ideal for a church.  There is also a small kitchen and a bedroom which could be used as the church office / vestry.

.

We  looked at a number of other properties and this was by far the best place for space, location, and appearance.

The Building is just opposite the Varee Kindergarten

We will be having a special gift day for the project on Sunday 18th May.

Our Wednesday Night Group will again meet tonight at the home of Joel Akins.  This week we will be discussing Chapter 11, Mercy, from Marcus Borg’s book.  On Sunday we will gather as usual at 11 a.m. to continue to celebrate Christ’s resurrection!

.

This week’s readings are taken from Acts 2:42-47,1 Peter 2:19-25, and John 10:1-10, and we will be singing the hymns The Lord’s My ShepherdLet us Build a HouseLet us Break Bread Together, and Thine Be the Glory!

Video of our Easter services can be found on the Audio-Visual page of the website.  As always, directions can be found on the Where and When page.

God bless,

Ken
